Parent Power fuels school bus

The Ysgol (school) Bro Famau is in Clwyd in North Wales and is actually two schools on separate sites with six pupils in each year in each school. The schools decided to work together so that the pupils would get more chance to interact with people their own age, have access to better sports facilities and there would be enough children to make up decent sports teams. To be able to do this though, the schools had to invest in a minibus to transport the kids between the sites. Parents of pupils and family friends worked with the Texaco Loggerheads service station near Mold to pilot the first Texaco we.o.u Group Loyalty Scheme. Over time, other local residents also signed-up for a card to help pay for fuel for the minibus.

Luis Prtak, Chairman of the Governors for Ysgol (school) Bro Famau said: "It has made a big difference to the children's lives with almost all the fuel costs for the minibus covered over the last two years. To put it another way, the £1,263 raised by parents and friends through the we.o.u Group Loyalty Card is more than two-thirds of the book-buying budget for this year. So far, we have around 100 people donating their Texaco Stars but we expect this to grow as other people in the villages become aware of this. We have even been contacted by the grandma of one of the pupils who lives in Chester but still wants to join our card scheme and use it at her local Texaco service station."

Brian Williams, operator of the Loggerheads Service Station said: "We have been developing this idea with the help of Texaco over a couple of years. I operate this site with my father Eifion and, together, we have issued 350 cards but with the children and parents moving on through the school years, we now have almost 100 regular users. People are very loyal to the cause and will sometimes run on empty to ensure they get back to fill up here." The Group Loyalty scheme is a proven success at Loggerheads in Wales. It works and benefits everyone involved - the group members, the cause they support and the retailer. Parent Power fuels school bus
